The philosophy of the Brooklyn Autism Center is grounded in data-based scientific study of the best practices for children with autism. Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is the educational standard for children with autism. According to the philosophy of ABA, all people respond to their environments in predictable ways. Changes in behavior can be effected by changes in the environment. Thus, children can learn to engage in more pro-social behavior and to reduce dangerous, socially inappropriate, or other challenging behavior through planned interactions with their environment.

The practice of ABA is grounded in the scientific method. Programming is individualized for each student, and is completely data-driven. Students are taught using the most effective procedures for each individual student. Procedures are overwhelmingly positive, with the goal of making social interactions and other socially appropriate behavior enjoyable for the student.

As students learn a wider range of skills, and as their abilities and choices increase, they are far less likely to resort to challenging behavior and more likely to want to participate in society to their fullest capabilities. The BAC believes that through appropriate instruction each child can make great strides in social and academic areas. We are committed to "training" the families of each child so that learned skills will be maintained and generalized in the home setting. We believe in working with the family as a whole, to generate the most successful outcome for each child.
